Jan invited by the Sundance Film Festival

Jan A.P. Kaczmarek was a guest of this year's edition of the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, UT. The Festival, organized by Sundance Institute and founded by Robert Redford, is one of the most important events of American independent cinema. It's worth noting that Sundance Institute has been collaborating with a few of Jan's most notable Polish initiatives for the past few years: Rozbitek Institute, which conducts educational projects for young and gifted screenplay writers, film music composers and directors, as well as the more and more prestigious TRANSATLANTYK International Film and Music Festival, held in Poznan.
The Polish Oscar®-winning composer was invited to take part in the discussion panel „Power of Story: Measure for Measure". He was accompanied by two other distinguished film music composers: Terence Blanchard and Mark Isham. The panel was moderated by Chris Douridas of the KCRW, three-times nominated to Grammy. They discussed the exceptional role of music in a well constructed film story. The guests presented their own experience and views on the subject.

Second edition of TRANSATLANTYK International Film and Music Festival!

Founded by Jan, the Festival gathered over 40 thousand viewers and participants this year! Aside from carrying on with the events that had been hugely popular during the first edition, TRANSATLANTYK also introduced a few novelties - e.g. the first ever Bed-In Open-Air Cinema, which allowed the audience to watch films in beds designed especially for the Festival, equipped with film projectors and soundsystems.
Within the free and open Master Classes, held in Poznan and Rozbitek Institute, outstanding specialists from all film and music professions shared their knowledge and experience with young filmmakers. Two unique film music competitions took place: TRANSATLANTYK Film Music Competition and TRANSATLANTYK Instant Composition Contest (in which the participants had to instantly compose music for a short filmclip they had just seen).
The most important award of the Festival - Glocal Hero Award 2012 - went to Elżbieta and Krzysztof Penderecki. Over 170 films were screened within 18 sections, two theater plays were staged and the biggest festival events were broadcast by TVP. More info at: http://www.transatlantyk.org/en.
